Over the next 12 months “Manchester always on”, a multi-million pound project funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) will be launching and managing a variety of local projects to help people and businesses in the region get the most out of broadband.
Giles Wadsworth, head of marketing for the Manchester always on project, comments: “Manchester always on will be targeting a wide range of individuals, businesses and communities throughout Greater Manchester and will be initiating a large number of varying projects, so it is of paramount importance that we have a fully joined up advertising, marketing and communications campaign to ensure our message is consistent.”
PR agency Weber Shandwick North organised the successful launch of the project, which consisted of a series of creative photo calls and interviews throughout Greater Manchester, and will continue to provide strategic PR support and media relations as the local initiatives begin.
Future PR activity will include the production of a ‘Broadbanders’ cartoon strip, which will culminate in a search for Greater Manchester’s most ‘connected’ family. Advertising and design agency Mojofuel will work with Weber Shandwick North to produce the Broadbanders cartoon strip.
Mojofuel will also be incorporating the Broadbanders cartoon into the Manchester always on web site, manchesteralwayson.org, which they have designed along with the project logo and advertising. Visitors to the site will be able to create virtual Broadbanders cartoons, with the best being published on the site.
The technology behind the web site was created by Manchester software developer TT360, which specialises in the delivery of back-end web sites and portal based technologies. The Manchester always on web site has been designed to meet the WAI AAA standard for accessibility, which is the highest achievable level. It also provides a number of additional behind the scenes features that help to make it available to the largest possible audience.
“The successful launch has proved that the agencies are able to work together effectively to achieve optimum results. The foundations are now laid for a successful integrated campaign” concludes Giles.
